Introduce yourself perfectly in French

To introduce yourself properly you need to :

1- Greet

‍

First, say hello -> "bonjour" (during the day) or "bonsoir" (at night from 6pm).

These will be used in a formal context, if you don't know the person or in a work environment.

You can also say "salut" which is informal

‍

Then you can ask how is the person.

Comment allez-vous ? / Vous allez bien ? / Est-ce que vous allez bien ? (How are you?)

Here we use the "vous" form, which is the vouvoiement to use in a formal context.

Comment vas-tu ? / Tu vas bien ? / Est-ce que tu vas bien ? / Ça va ? (How are you?)

Here we use the "tu" form, which is the tutoiement to use in an informal context.

2- Tell your name

In an informal context, you can just give your first name.

Je m'appelle + first name -> Je m'appelle Charles ( My name is Charles)

Je suis + first name -> Je suis Charles (I'm Charles)

Moi, c'est + first name -> Moi, c'est Charles (I'm Charles)

In a formal context, you can also give your name.

Je m'appelle + Full name -> Je m'appelle Charles Martin ( My name is Charles Martin)

Mon nom de famille + Surname -> Mon nom de famille est Martin (My family name is Martin)

3- Give your nationality

Je suis + Nationality -> Je suis français (I'm French)

Je viens de + City -> Je viens de Paris (I come from Paris)

Je suis de nationalité + Nationality (feminine form) -> Je suis de nationalité française (. I am a French citizen)

‍J'ai + Age -> J'ai 27 ans

Je suis né(e) + Year of birth -> Je suis né en 1995

Ma date de naissance est le + Birth date -> Ma date de naissance est le 23/03/1993

5- Talk about your occupation

For students :

Je suis étudiant en + year of studies / type of studies -> Je suis étudiant en 1ère année de marketing. (I'm a 1st year marketing student)

Je suis + type of studies -> Je suis lycéen (I'm a high school student)

Je suis en + year of studies -> Je suis en 3ème année (I'm in my 3rd year)

Je travaille dans le secteur + Name of the sector -> Je travaille dans le secteur bancaire (I work in the banking sector)
